Getting Started with Nutrition for WooCommerce

You want to display accurate nutrition information for your products

If you’re a food merchant selling online, you know customers increasingly demand transparency about what they’re buying. They’re checking nutrition labels, comparing products, and making informed choices. Without proper nutrition information on your WooCommerce store, you’re likely losing sales to competitors who provide this essential data.

This plugin solves that problem by giving you the tools to add, manage, and beautifully display nutrition information on your WooCommerce products – just like the labels customers see in stores.

Installation in 3 Simple Steps

Step 1: Install and Activate

  1. Download the Nutrition for WooCommerce plugin from you account after purchase.
  2. Navigate to WordPress Admin → Plugins → Add New
  3. Click Upload Plugin and select your downloaded file
  4. Click Install Now, then Activate

Step 2: Configure Your Display Settings

Navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Nutrition to set up your global preferences:

  1. Choose Your Display Format
  • Default: Perfect for most international markets (shows Per 100g and Per Serving)
  • FDA (United States): Specifically formatted for US compliance requirements
  1. Select Your Unit System
  • Metric: Standard for most countries (g, ml, kJ)
  • Imperial: Primarily for US merchants (oz, fl oz)

Step 3: Add Your First Nutrition Label

  1. Edit any WooCommerce product
  2. Click the Nutrition tab in the Product Data section
  3. Check Enable Nutrition Information
  4. Enter your nutrition data and save

That’s it! Your nutrition information will now display in a dedicated tab on your product page.

Understanding the Nutrition Tab

When you enable nutrition information for a product, you’ll see several important sections:

Nutrition Data Entry Method

This critical setting tells the plugin how to interpret the values you enter:

  • Per 100g: Choose this if your nutrition data source shows values per 100 grams
  • Per Serving: Choose this if your data is already calculated per serving size

Serving Size Definition

Define what constitutes one serving of your product:

  • Amount: Enter a number (e.g., 30)
  • Unit: Select the appropriate unit (g, ml, oz, piece, slice, etc.)

Nutrient Fields

Enter values for relevant nutrients:

  • Energy: Always enter in kilojoules (kJ) – the plugin automatically displays both kJ and kcal
  • Macronutrients: Fat, protein, carbohydrates and their sub-components
  • Minerals & Vitamins: Sodium, calcium, iron, etc.
  • Additional Info: Ingredients list and allergen information

Quick Tips for Success

Tip 1: Match Your Data Source

If your nutrition information comes from a lab report showing “per 100g” values, select “Per 100g” as your input method. The plugin will automatically calculate per-serving values based on your defined serving size.

Tip 2: Don’t Skip Serving Size

Even if you’re entering “Per 100g” data, always define a serving size. Many display formats (especially FDA) require this information.

Tip 3: Start Simple

You don’t need to fill in every field. Start with the basics:

  • Energy
  • Protein
  • Total Fat
  • Total Carbohydrates
  • Sodium

You can always add more detailed information later when you’ve setup the rest of the plugin.
